Laing Essay Prize

The Laing Essay Prize is awarded annually for the best essay on a pre-defined topic.

AB Wallace Award 2012

The Healing Foundation and the British Burn Association wish to award a prize of up to £10,000 to support research in the area of ‘burns, disfigurement and visible loss of function’ and which pays tribute to the visionary ideals of AB Wallace, the pioneering burns research surgeon, famously passionate about the role of research in advancing burns medicine and care for patients.

Application is open to Professional Members of the ISBI or the BBA, for research that can be shown to have genuine impact on the burn patient. This includes all aspects of prevention, acute care, burn wound healing and post-burn scarring, and post-burn rehabilitation.

This award can be used to support costs including staff, equipment and materials associated with a new or ongoing research project.

Applications are encouraged from low or lower middle income countries as are international collaborations that celebrate the ISBI ‘One World, One Standard of Burn Care’ theme.

Laing Essay Prize 2012

The Laing Essay Prize is open to all involved in burn care, and the title for 2012 is: ‘The 21st Century Burn Care Team’.  The essay should be a maximum of 5000 words and in the style used by Burns Journal.  Three referees, appointed by the BBA, will judge and award the winner £500.  The prize winning essay will be eligible for publication in Burns at the discretion of the Editor.
