The BBA National Burns Awareness Day 2016

The BBA National Burns Awareness Day was held on 19 October 2016. Mr Ken Dunn, Chair of the BBA Prevention Sub-Committee reported a hugely successful 3rd National Burn Awareness Day.

This year the British Burn Association’s Twitter account (@BritishBurn ) was updated with custom infographics and used to increase our social media presence to reach more people, offering advice on burn prevention and First Aid.

There was increased media coverage with radio and TV interviews, You Tube videos and local radio and newspapers reporting on burn awareness. Charities displayed information links on their websites and used social media to raise awareness.

Burn services displayed information in their local hospitals offering advice on burn prevention and First Aid. Other activities included cake sales, quizzes, fridge magnets and retail park hopping. The National Burn Awareness Card highlighting the “Three C’s” Burn First Aid Message was distributed.

The Fire Service supported the awareness day offering advice about home and firework safety, smoke alarm checks as well as advice on fancy dress costumes.

The Prevention Sub-Committee would like to applaud the efforts of all those involved in making the 2016 Burn Awareness Day a huge success, and look forward to next year’s campaign.
