DESCRIPTION:The University of Sheffield Level 7 Paediatric Wound Care course covers: \n\nSurgical\nTrauma\nBurns and Plastics\nPressure and Chronic Wounds\n\nDescription\nDesigned in conjunction with Sheffield Children’s Hospital\, this module is for qualified healthcare professionals who work in a paediatric setting or with paediatric patients. It is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to provide paediatric wound care in line with current national policy. \nThe needs of the healthcare system are ever changing and paediatric patients are seen in a variety of settings. You will gain a holistic understanding of the theory and practice of paediatric wound care\, to enhance your skills and evidence-based decision-making abilities and confidence in this area. You will critically analyse the wound care that you provide in your clinical setting by identifying how the relevant theories\, policy\, guidelines and protocols underpin your practice. \nTeaching\nThis module is taught online through the University of Sheffield’s virtual learning environment. \nYou learn through eight online study days that take place every two weeks. In between the study days\, you will be expected to gain clinical experience of paediatric wound care management. DESCRIPTION:This original and informative unit will provide the foundation of key board injury knowledge and burn management principles from which to facilitate best practice in burn care for people who work in burns services nationally and internationally. \nIt is a single unit with curriculum covering both paediatric and adult aspects of burn injury care. \nIt is open to all members of the burn care team as well as other health care professionals who have regular contact with burn patients. \nUnit Content\nThe curriculum covers all aspects of both paediatric and adult acute burn injury management\, specifically: \n\nBurn aetiology\nCalculation of depth and TBSA\nManagement of acute and procedural pain\nManagement of chemical and electrical burn injuries\nSurgical intervention procedures and early excision\nPsychological difficulties experienced by burn patients and practical solutions\nWound healing and appropriate dressing selection\nPhysiotherapy/occupational therapy and early rehab measures for the burned patient\n\nand much more…… \nWhere and When?\nThe unit runs for a total of seven full day sessions\, each on a Friday\, generally commencing in September with the last session being in December each year. Credits obtained at level 7 can be used towards the MSc Advanced Professional Practice Programme. \nHosted by the London and South East England Burns Network with UEA oversight\, it covers the patient journey from burn pathophysiology to various aspects of care\, including prehospital assessment and complex injuries. It includes six taught days with diverse teaching methods\, case scenario explorations\, and work-based learning. \nApplications can be made at Level 6 and Level 7.
