The BBA Achievement Award is designed to allow recognition of noteworthy service and contribution in the field of Burns.

Those awarded the BBA Achievement Award will be people who have gone over and above what is expected in their role:

  1. The BBA Achievement Award is not exclusive to BBA members and is open to nominations for all non-members and disciplines of the Burns Speciality or civilians working in supporting roles.
  2. Nominations must be made by two independent parties for the Achievement Award.
  3. Nominations should be addressed to the BBA Secretary for review by the Board of Trustees up to once a year and should be presented on the nomination submission form available on the BBA website.
  4. Decisions will be considered to be quorate if half of the identified members are present and awards will be allocated on the basis of a majority vote.
  5. Details of the nomination should not be shared outside of the British Burn Association Board of Trustees and those persons making the nomination. This includes not sharing the details of nomination with the nominee.
  6. Feedback will not be given on why a nominee was/was not recommended for the award.
  7. The Board of Trustees would not normally expect to receive another nomination for an unsuccessful nominee within a three-year period, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
  8. Nominees can only receive one BBA Achievement award per 5 year period.
  9. In circumstances where the Board of Trustees deems that a nominee is doing commendable work but has not reached the criteria for an award, the Board may recommend to the Chair of the Board of Trustees that they write a letter of commendation to the nominee.
  10. The decision will be communicated to the successful candidate by letter from the Board of Trustees.
  11. BBA Achievement Award will be awarded annually.
  12. Presentations will be announced at the Annual British Burn Association Conference and a Certificate of Achievement will be presented to the recipient. The recipient will receive free conference registration on the day of the presentation, reimbursement of economy class travel expenses, one night’s accommodation and a ticket to the Conference Dinner.
  13. A recipient of the BBA Achievement Award must remain in good standing within their profession. The Committee may rescind the award to an individual if an individual’s character is called in to question and may harm the reputation of the British Burn Association or its members by association. Issues that may be considered as to call into question an individual’s character may include, but are not restricted to:
  • Adverse publicity
  • Criminal cases
  • Professional misconduct issues
